Omilo is a front end for Festival/Flite and Open Mary text to speech systems. It can be used with Orca Screen Reader to provide better voices to visually impaired users. You can learn more about Orca here: Gnome Orca
Installation - deb file
The easiest way to install omilo is to download the deb file and install it with Ubuntu Software Center. To use it with Orca : Open omilo, select "Install orca module" and give your password. Open orca preferences with Insert + Space Go to second tab (Voices) Go to speech synthesizer combobox and select omilo Press OK (espeak will continue to speak for some seconds) Run omilo (wait for voice to load) F12 will always show omilo window
Be careful when you uninstall omilo. If you uninstall omilo before selecting a different speech synthesizer you will end up with a non-speaking Orca. So select a new speech synthesizer in Orca preferences and after that you can safely remove omilo.
